About the Candidate

Bill Dahlin is running for Wyoming Governor 2018.

Who is Bill?

Bill is a driven, seasoned, experienced, and successful businessman and gentleman who has come from humble beginnings and hard work.  He is a working man.  He understands the importance of fiscal responsibility as well as living and working within a budget.  He was born and raised in Wyoming and grew up in Downer Addition in Sheridan.

He is a widower.  His wife became ill eight years ago and passed away.  He loved her very much.  It was the biggest challenge of his life.

Family and friends are the fabric of life.  His mother still lives in Downer Addition as well as other family living in Sheridan, other parts of Wyoming, Montana and around the country.  Pretty much like everyone else in Wyoming.

He has two grown children that he is extremely proud of, Tanner and Kaydee. Tanner lives in New York City and is a producer in science communication as well as a working comedian/actor. Kaydee lives in Washington DC and works as Kids and Family Yoga Instructor. She is married to Lucas Winter (Middle East Analyst for the Department of Army), and together they have two children.

Bill attended K-12 in Sheridan, continued on to Sheridan College then pursued further education in Independent Studies at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT.  His business and career interests led him to specialized studies in business, railroad transportation and structural engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the Institute of Technology in Chicago, and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS.

As a hard worker and go-getter, he worked in the farm and ranch business before starting a career with Burlington Northern Railroad (BN) as a laborer and then upper management. BN offered him a corporate position at HQ.

With entrepreneurial spirit and hard working attitude Bill left BN in 1991 to start his own business M-BAR-D Railcar Service (C) Corporation, which primarily contracted to railroad companies across the United States. Starting from scratch, he successfully grew this to $10 million in sales with 100 employees and sold it in 2001. During that time he also started up several other ventures including: General Leasing Company (S) Corporation, Nobles Rock Railroad, and with a partner created Gascoyne Material Handling and Recycling, LLC (GMHR).  He is also part owner of Black Ridge Financial Group, a banking chain in the Midwest.

He currently stays active in GMHR, LLC which has offices in Scranton, ND, Dickinson, ND, Fargo, ND, and Sheridan, WY. Annual gross sales of (GMHR) are approximately $15 million with connections to major industries. Operations include, but are not limited to:

  • Railroad served landfill with 1200 acres near Scranton, a frac-sand storage and transload facility at Scranton, a fuel contaminated soil treatment facility at Scranton, a crude oil unit train transload facility at Scranton. • Worked extensively with Cloud Peak Energy – (major coal producer in Wyoming)

Some of his hobbies and accomplishments are:

  • Past Exalted Ruler and Member of the oldest Elks Lodge in Wyoming. The Elks is a fraternal charitable organization with over 2000 Lodges world wide, and Wyoming hosting 16 Lodges that touch every corner of the state.
